Crab-Stuffed Orange is like an effusive little sun who is wont to cheer people up using all sorts of methods. He enjoys developing and modifying little machines and has crafted many marvelous and strange objects. Sometimes he'll even use his machines to play pranks on others. He has a treasure bag which contains numerous rare and wondrous baubles.
Food Introduction[]
Crab-stuffed orange is a specialty from Hangzhou in Zhejiang province. Crab meat and crab roe are removed from the shell, then mixed with pork fat, water chestnut, egg, and seasonings to make a crab stuffing which is then put into the peal of a fresh orange and steamed. The salty freshness of the crab stuffing and the sweet aromatics of the orange combine to make this dish.
Tradition has it that crab-stuffed orange originated in the Song dynasty, and orange had already been in use as a seasoning before the Song dynasty. There is a book from the Southern Song called "Crab Strategy"[1] which discusses using an orange to mitigate the funky seafood odor of crab meat. This goes to show that the seemingly odd combination of orange and crab was quite popular even in ancient times.
