Food Introduction[]
Hoto - a type of dough drop soup - is a native dish in Yamanashi, Japan. Apparently, its name is said to derive from the way hakutaku - a dish in the Heian period - is spoke. During the Sengoku period, Takeda Shingen regularly used Hoto as an army ration when he participates in battles in the wild.
There's an ancient saying in Japan: "If you can't make a good Hoto, you can't do your job on your own". Preparing Hoto is even a necessary class of women must take when they are wed. There's even an idiom in history that states: "Pumpkin Hoto is the best".

Notes
1. Takeda Shingen (武田 信玄, December 1, 1521 – May 13, 1573), of Kai Province, was a pre-eminent daimyō in feudal Japan. Known as the "Tiger of Kai", He was one of the most powerful daimyōs with exceptional military prestige in the late stage of the Sengoku period. Shingen had been a 'Warlord' of great domestic skill and competent military leadership.
2. The name hōtō is commonly thought to be a euphony of hakutaku (餺飥); the name for udon flour after it has been kneaded and cut.
